I Brought My 89-Year-Old Great-Grandma to Prom—She Became the Star of the Night

When my school announced prom, I wasn’t exactly excited. I wasn’t dating anyone, and honestly, it all felt a little overhyped.

Then one evening, while I was sitting at home, I noticed my great-grandma Alma watching an old black-and-white movie from her recliner.

“Did you ever go to prom?” I asked casually.

She smiled, but there was something wistful in her voice. “Back in my day, girls like me didn’t really get invited to prom.”

That stayed with me. Alma has always been a strong, kind, and spirited woman—she raised four children, navigated life’s many challenges, and still finds reasons to laugh every day.

That’s when I had an idea.

“Alma,” I said, “would you like to be my prom date?”

She raised an eyebrow. “Are you serious?”

“Completely,” I replied. “But only if we find you something fabulous to wear.”
