Adrián Olivares, who gained fame as a member of the iconic Latin boy band Menudo, has passed away at the age of 48. The news of his death was confirmed by his bandmates and family on Monday night.
According to a GoFundMe page set up by his loved ones, Adrián passed away suddenly on Monday. He had recently been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, which, compounded by his pre-existing ulcerative colitis, worsened his condition.
The GoFundMe page seeks donations to help cover Adrián’s final expenses and support his family. The funds will go directly to his mother, Natasha. The page reads, “Any support you can offer would be greatly appreciated during this difficult time. We love you, Adrián!”
Adrián joined Menudo in 1990 as the band’s 23rd member, about 20 years after the group was formed. He was part of the band for three years before leaving in 1993 at the age of 16. Despite his brief tenure, he contributed to memorable albums such as 15 Años, Detras Tu Mirada, and Dancin’, Movin’, Shakin’.
In recent years, Adrián launched Wynwood Podcasting, a multimedia studio in Miami, Florida, and previously managed Antenna Sound Inc. He also appeared in the Max miniseries Forever Young.
Adrián is survived by his three daughters: Eliana, 18, and twin daughters Lia and Lilly, 8. Tributes have poured in from his former bandmates and friends. Robert Avellanet, a fellow Menudo member, expressed his shock on Instagram, remembering Adrián’s humor and spirit.
