You don’t expect life to unravel on a Tuesday. Tuesdays are supposed to be uneventful, just another quiet stop along the week.
But that’s exactly when everything changed for me — arms full of groceries, stepping into a soft drizzle outside the local store.
That’s when I saw her.
She sat on the curb, a baby cradled in her arms, wrapped in a worn blue blanket. Her face was pale and weary, her eyes deep pools of exhaustion. Yet there was a quiet strength in the way she held that child, something that made me stop in my tracks.
“Please,” she said, her voice nearly lost in the sound of the rain. “Anything would help.”
Normally, I wouldn’t give money. It wasn’t about being coldhearted — just cautious. But that day was different. Maybe it was the way the baby looked at me, eyes wide and unaware of the world’s hardships.
Without thinking, I handed her $50.
