The Unexpected Separation

My wife and I met young and fell in love quickly. Within a year, we had a beautiful daughter—her tiny fingers, bright eyes, and joyful laughter made my world complete. I promised her that I would always be there.

But sometimes, promises are tested in ways we never expect.

One evening, my wife sat me down at the kitchen table. Her expression was unreadable, her voice steady.

“I want a divorce,” she said.

I was stunned. “What?”

She remained firm. “It’s not working. We both know it.”

I didn’t know it. I thought we were just going through a rough patch. I pleaded with her to reconsider, reminding her of our daughter. But she had already made up her mind.

Then came the most difficult part.

“I want full custody.”

I resisted. “That’s not fair.”

“She needs her mother,” she argued. “But you can see her whenever you want. I promise.”

Wanting to avoid a drawn-out battle, I reluctantly agreed, believing that she would keep her word.

A month later, she remarried.

At first, I was still able to visit. I spent time with my daughter, held her in my arms, and felt reassured that our bond remained strong. But then, things began to change.

“She’s not feeling well today.”

“We have plans—maybe next weekend.”

My calls went unanswered. My messages were ignored. And then, one day, I decided enough was enough.
