When I started dating Ryan, I knew there would be challenges, especially with his three young daughters. Loving him meant embracing the noise, mess, and chaos that came with them. I gave up my guest room and rec room to make space for the kids, believing in compromise and love.
Ryan’s ex-wife, Laura, had always been unpredictable, so when she got several pets against her lease’s rules, I wasn’t surprised. But when Ryan agreed to let them stay with us, I was caught off guard. “They’re attached to them,” he said. “How could I say no?”
Reluctantly, I agreed to a temporary solution, but things quickly got out of hand. One evening, I came home after a long day to find a house full of animals—dogs, cats, and rodents. My allergies flared up immediately.
