I only meant to fold a few shirts. But when I tiptoed back into the nursery, I nearly dropped the laundry basket in disbelief.
There, nestled in Amelie’s wooden rocker, lay my baby girl—completely surrounded by three tabby kittens, who had clearly declared her their queen.
One kitten draped itself across her tiny shoulders like a furry scarf, its paws hanging lazily over her chest. Another sprawled belly-up across her lap, purring in rhythm with her gentle breath. And the third? It perched atop her head like a royal crown, tail wrapped neatly at its side, gazing out over its kingdom with regal calm.
Amelie slept on, blissfully unaware of her coronation, cheeks rosy and lips curled into the softest smile. The kitten atop her head gave a single, delicate meow—as if inviting me to approach the throne—then settled back into place.
I stood in the doorway, torn between laughing out loud and grabbing my phone. Quietly, carefully, I stepped forward and captured the moment on camera, preserving what could only be described as pure magic.
