Two police officers walked in, and Robin’s smile faltered. “Is there a problem, officers?” he asked, confused.
“We need you to come with us for questioning,” one said.
I stammered, “I’m sorry, Robin. There are serious allegations against you.”
After a tense conversation, Robin was surprisingly released. He returned to our table, bewildered.
“Selena, what’s going on?” he asked.
I was speechless. “You’re involved in something bad… aren’t you?”
He shook his head, showing me a photo of a man who looked just like him. “That’s my twin brother, Adrian. He’s been in trouble before.”
My face flushed. “I’m so sorry, Robin.”
“It’s okay. Anyone would have reacted the same,” he replied.
Just then, my mom rushed in, shocked to see Robin still there. I showed her the photo, and her eyes widened in disbelief. “They’re identical!”
Robin explained he was trying to help Adrian, who had disappeared. I reached out to him. “I’m sorry for putting you through this.”
He smiled sadly. “You were trying to protect others.”
I took a deep breath. “Robin, I know this isn’t how we imagined tonight would go. But if you’re willing, I’d love to start over. No mistaken identities this time.”
His smile returned, warm and genuine. “I’d like that, Selena.”
As we left the café, I felt a mix of relief and excitement. Despite the chaos, something good had come from it. But somewhere out there was a man who looked just like Robin—a man who was everything I feared.
This was just the beginning of something wild, and I wasn’t sure if I was ready for it.
