It started on a quiet walk to the library. Just a folding table, a few paper bags, and a handmade sign that read: “FREE LUNCH FOR ANYONE WHO NEEDS.”
At first, I thought it was simply a sweet gesture—someone offering kindness to strangers. I didn’t give it much thought. But a week later, after skipping breakfast and realizing I only had a couple dollars left in my account, I decided to take a bag.
Inside: a peanut butter sandwich, apple slices, and a granola bar. Simple, but exactly what I needed.
The next day, I returned. And the day after that. Until one Friday, something unexpected happened. Along with my sandwich, a small note slipped out of the bag.
“If you’re reading this, I think we’re connected in more ways than you know.”
No signature, no explanation.
At first, I thought it was just a motivational message. But two days later, another note appeared.
“You used to live on Linden Street, didn’t you? Near the blue house?”
