When I first found out I was pregnant with Jace, I thought living in my late mother’s trailer was only temporary. But as bills piled up and emergencies drained my savings, it felt like every step forward was met with two steps back. Still, I worked hard, hoping one day Jace would appreciate my sacrifices.

When Jace turned 18, I encouraged him to get a job, assuring him he could stay with me until he got on his feet. But by 22, he was working a minimum-wage job with little ambition. Then I found out I was pregnant again. The father disappeared, and when I told Jace, he complained, “We can’t afford another child.”

“We’ll manage. Babies are blessings,” I replied. “But if you’re unhappy, you can move out.”

At five months pregnant, I went into premature labor. Luke was born too early, and doctors fought to save him. When Jace visited, he was shocked by how tiny Luke was. “He’s so tiny. I can’t believe he’s alive.”

“He’s a miracle,” I said through tears.

Jace asked, “Are you sure this is the right thing to do? Is he in pain?”

“I have to fight for him, just like I fought for you,” I replied. “He deserves a chance.”

Jace’s expression changed. “You’re right. He deserves a shot.”
