When I arrived at the hospital to bring home my wife and newborn twins, joy turned to despair—Suzie was gone, leaving behind a cryptic note:
“Goodbye. Take care of them. Ask your mother WHY she did this to me.”
My daughters were sleeping peacefully, but Suzie had vanished. Staggering under the weight of her message, I clung to the hope that there was some misunderstanding. Yet, as the nurse confirmed her discharge that morning, reality struck: she had left me, our girls, and the life we’d built.
When I returned home, my mother, Mandy, greeted me with her usual enthusiasm, oblivious to the storm raging inside me. I shoved the note at her, demanding answers. Her initial confusion quickly gave way to guilt as I unearthed a hidden letter she had written to Suzie, dripping with malice:
“You’ll never be good enough for my son. If you care about them, you’ll leave before you ruin their lives.”
