It was late afternoon when 16-year-old Jake stepped through the front door, cradling a baby carefully in his arms. His mother, Sarah, glanced up from the kitchen, her eyes widening in surprise.
“Jake, where did that baby come from?” she asked, hurrying toward him with concern.
Jake took a steady breath, his expression a mix of uncertainty and determination. “Mom, I found him alone at the park. It was getting dark, and no one was around. I couldn’t just leave him there, so I brought him home.”
Without hesitation, Sarah reached for her phone and contacted the authorities, explaining the situation. Within minutes, officers arrived, and Jake recounted how he had discovered the baby wrapped up on a bench near the playground, seemingly unattended.
Officer Daniels listened intently before offering a reassuring nod. “You did the right thing by bringing him somewhere safe,” he said.
A wave of relief washed over Jake as his mother placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. The officers weren’t suspicious of him—they were focused on ensuring the baby’s well-being and locating the child’s family.
Officer Daniels explained that the baby needed a medical check-up. “We’ll also notify Social Services,” he added. “They’ll investigate any reports of a missing child and make sure he’s properly cared for.”
