The shocking murder of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk has sent shockwaves around the world, and among the many public figures reacting, actress Jamie Lee Curtis’s emotional response has drawn both sympathy and criticism. Now, the Oscar-winning star is finally addressing the backlash and clarifying what she really meant.
In the days following Kirk’s murder, Jamie Lee Curtis opened up during an appearance on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast. The actress admitted she “disagreed with him on almost every point,” but still recognized that “he was a man of faith.”
Fighting back tears, Curtis reflected: “Even though I found his ideas abhorrent, I believe he was a father, a husband, and a man of faith. I just hope that in that final moment, he felt connected to his faith.”
She also spoke about the disturbing impact of repeatedly seeing violent images online — referencing both 9/11 footage and videos of Kirk’s shooting circulating on social media. “We don’t fully understand what that does to us psychologically — seeing such violence again and again,” she said. “I never want to see that footage.”
While many applauded Curtis for showing compassion despite political differences, others accused her of “praising” Kirk or downplaying his controversial views. The criticism hit especially hard given that Curtis is the mother of a transgender daughter, and Kirk was known for his outspoken opposition to LGBTQ+ rights.
