Judge Issues Ruling on Timothy Busfield — Melissa Gilbert Reacts in Court

Prior to the hearing, Busfield completed a psychosexual evaluation, which included interviews with Gilbert. Evaluators assessed him as “very low risk,” citing his consistent employment, strong family support, and prosocial behavior.

Over 75 letters of support were submitted, including multiple from Gilbert and colleagues, vouching for his character and professionalism.

Busfield faces charges of criminal sexual contact of a minor under 13 and child abuse, related to allegations involving two children. He has pleaded not guilty and denies all claims. If convicted on all counts, he could face up to 15 years in prison. The case is ongoing.

The courtroom proceedings, particularly Gilbert’s visible distress, highlight the emotional toll of the case and the uncertainty that remains as the legal process continues.
