Julianne Moore Expresses Disappointment Over Book Ban in Certain Schools
Julianne Moore recently shared her surprise and disappointment upon learning that her children’s book, Freckleface Strawberry, had been restricted in certain Department of Defense (DoD) schools. The 2007 book, inspired by Moore’s own childhood experiences, delivers a positive message about self-acceptance, encouraging young readers to embrace their unique features with confidence.

Her father, Peter Moore Smith, served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army, further deepening her connection to the military community. She found it especially disheartening that a book designed to promote kindness and self-confidence would be restricted.
In her post, Moore reflected on the broader issue of book removals, emphasizing the importance of stories that help children feel good about themselves. She also expressed gratitude to PEN America, an organization dedicated to protecting free expression, for raising awareness about book accessibility in schools.
