A Christmas Surprise
One month after my mother passed away, my father introduced us to Amanda, a woman he’d recently met, as our “new mom” during Christmas dinner. The announcement caught me off guard, and I struggled to understand his sudden shift. My mom had been the heart of our family, and I couldn’t imagine anyone replacing her, especially so soon.
In the weeks following my mom’s passing, my sisters and I tried to keep things as normal as possible. We supported each other, doing our best to fill the gap my mom left behind.
Dad seemed to be changing quickly—he started cleaning out Mom’s things and spending time on activities he hadn’t before, like going to the gym and buying new clothes.
Then, just weeks after we said goodbye to Mom, Dad told us about Amanda. “She makes me happy,” he said. “I want you to meet her.”
