Tragedy Strikes Frisco: High School Athlete Dies After Track Meet Altercation

The Frisco, Texas community is in mourning following the sudden death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, a talented student-athlete at Frisco Memorial High School. The incident occurred earlier this month during a high school track meet, and authorities have confirmed that another teen, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony of Centennial High School, is facing charges related to the incident.

Incident at Kuykendall Stadium

On April 2, students, parents, and staff gathered at Kuykendall Stadium for a routine track meet. What began as a minor disagreement escalated, resulting in a tragic outcome. Authorities say Austin Metcalf was injured during an altercation with Anthony. Despite efforts from those on site, Austin later passed away, leaving his family, friends, and classmates in shock.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

Karmelo Anthony was taken into custody at the scene and charged with first-degree murder. He is currently held in Collin County Jail with a bond set at $1 million. His family has recently retained Mike Howard, a Dallas-based criminal defense attorney, to lead his defense team.

“The family of Karmelo Anthony is committed to ensuring he receives fair legal representation,” a statement from the Next Generation Action Network (NGAN) said.
