Timeline of the Exposure
According to the Chicago Department of Public Health, the infected passenger spent extended periods inside Terminal 1 on April 22 and April 23, between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. During that time, thousands of domestic and international travelers moved through the same areas.
Measles is considered one of the most contagious respiratory illnesses known. Medical experts explain that the virus can linger in the air or on surfaces for up to two hours after an infected person leaves, meaning exposure can occur without direct contact.
