The incident, which involved multiple cargo trucks and passenger vehicles, occurred near San Juan del Río, Querétaro, during the early morning hours.
How the Accident Happened
Preliminary reports indicate that a trailer truck suffered a mechanical failure while descending a slope. Unable to brake, the truck struck several vehicles before colliding with another freight truck. The impact triggered a fire, spreading quickly and trapping vehicles in its path.
Emergency crews, including firefighters, federal police, and paramedics, rushed to the scene. Despite their efforts, 19 fatalities were confirmed by mid-morning, and the highway was closed for several hours as authorities carried out investigations.
