Ahmed sustained gunshot wounds to his arm and hand during the confrontation and is now recovering in hospital. His actions have drawn global attention, including praise from President Donald Trump, who called Ahmed “a very brave person… who saved a lot of lives.”
Ahmed’s heroism has inspired overwhelming support. A GoFundMe campaign to assist him has already raised over $1.3 million, with contributions including $99,000 from billionaire investor Bill Ackman. The campaign highlights Ahmed’s courage:

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns visited Ahmed in the hospital, calling him a “real-life hero” whose courage “no doubt saved countless lives.”
