When Margaret received a beautifully wrapped box from her daughter-in-law, Anita, she felt a pang of unease. Inside was a stunning white maxi dress with a note: “Please wear this to the wedding. Love, Anita.” Given their tense relationship, Margaret wondered if this was a setup. Anita had always been different from Margaret’s traditional values, leading to frequent disagreements.
Feeling unsure, Margaret reached out to her best friend, Linda. “She sent me a white dress! Can you believe it?” Margaret said. Linda suggested discussing it with Anita, but Margaret was anxious about confronting her.
The next day, Margaret met Anita at a café. “You don’t like the dress?” Anita asked. Margaret responded, “I’m just puzzled about why you want me to wear white to your wedding.” Anita explained, “This wedding is about bringing family together, and I wanted to honor you, Margaret.”
