My ex-husband, Kevin, wasn’t just bitter; he made it his mission to make my life miserable. My name is Taylor. At 30, I thought I had life figured out. Kevin and I had been married for seven years, and for most of that time, I truly believed we were happy. I ignored the warning signs: late nights at work, cryptic texts, and a phone he guarded like it held national secrets.

“Taylor, you’re being paranoid,” he’d say. “You just don’t trust me.”

But eventually, the truth made itself impossible to ignore. One weekday morning, I forgot my laptop and came home to grab it—only to find Kevin with another woman in our bed. The shock hit me like a wave, but his reaction was even worse than the betrayal itself.

“You never made it easy,” he snapped. “You were never enough.”

Oddly enough, I found that peace across the street from the house we once shared. My realtor was hesitant about the location, but to me, it was perfect. The apartment felt like a fresh start.
