She was just eight years old, the daughter of my fiancé, Lucas, and from the moment we met, I felt drawn to her. At first, she was quiet, thoughtful beyond her years, and cautious about opening up. It took time and patience, but every small step — every shared smile, every gentle conversation — was worth it. She would sit beside me while I painted my nails, asking curious little questions. For the first six months, she called me “Miss Julia.” Then one afternoon, she took my hand, looked up with her big, earnest eyes, and asked, “May I call you Mama-Jules?” My heart melted in an instant.

When Lucas and I began planning our wedding, I knew it wouldn’t just be about the two of us — it would be about becoming a family. Grace was part of everything: she chose her own flower girl dress, a shimmering pink gown that swirled when she twirled; she helped pick flowers for the centerpieces; we even came up with a silly handshake during cake tasting.
