My MIL Let Her Friend Use My Clothes and Makeup While I Was on a Business Trip – Karma Worked on Them Better than Any Revenge

Dave was equally upset, confronting his mother about violating our privacy and trust. Just then, the doorbell rang, and Sheryl showed up, smirking and claiming Janet had given her permission to borrow my things. I told her firmly that what she did was not borrowing but trespassing and theft. Dave asked her to leave immediately, and I told Janet to go as well.

In the following days, tensions ran high at home. While I was understandably upset, I decided against seeking revenge. Lisa suggested I let karma take its course, which I decided to do. A week later, Janet called me in a panic. Sheryl had a severe allergic reaction, with her face swollen and covered in a rash, likely from the makeup she had used—my makeup. Janet, feeling embarrassed and remorseful, apologized and asked for forgiveness.

Although I was relieved to see karma at work, rebuilding trust with Janet would take time. She made amends by replacing the makeup, cleaning my wedding dress, and even hiring a professional to organize my closet. Dave had a serious conversation with her about respecting our boundaries and made it clear that her actions were unacceptable.

In the end, I didn’t need to take any action myself. Karma provided its own lesson, teaching both Janet and Sheryl a valuable truth. Our family grew stronger from the experience, and Janet now respects our boundaries. Sometimes, letting the universe handle things—with a touch of humor—is the best form of justice.
