“Her dress was more of a bridal gown than the actual bride’s,” the OP remarked about his mother’s attire.
As the reception approached, OP decided to take matters into his own hands to teach his mother a lesson for overshadowing his brother and sister-in-law’s special day.
“We were served glasses of red wine at lunch, and I asked for mine to be filled to the brim,” he recounted in his Reddit post. As you might guess, he didn’t drink it but “accidentally” spilled it on his mother’s dress after pretending to trip.
Her dress was ruined, and she was furious. She began shouting and was extremely angry with him, as she now had to take a four-hour round trip to go home and change. By the time she returned, she had missed a significant portion of the reception and was dressed in the outfit her son, the groom, had originally bought for her.
Some close to the groom and OP knew that the “trip” wasn’t an accident. Understanding their mother’s nature, they were pleased he had given her a taste of her own medicine.
The Maid of Honor even praised him, saying he deserved an Oscar for his performance. “Enjoy the best bottle of wine I could find, for the best wedding gift you could have given us,” she told him.
Unfortunately, OP’s mom still refuses to speak to him, but he has no regrets, and Reddit users supported his actions.
Many commended him for standing up for his brother and sister-in-law when they needed it most and criticized his mom for her deliberate attempt to make the day about her.
