My wealthy parents demanded I marry to inherit the family business, so I chose a modest “country girl” just to defy them. But soon, I learned she was hiding an extraordinary secret.

I’ll admit upfront, I’m not proud of how this all began. I wasn’t searching for love—not even close. My goal was simple: rebel against my parents.

I’d always lived life my way, without strings. Parties, luxury cars, lavish vacations—because why not? My family was rich, and I knew I’d inherit my father’s company eventually.

Then my parents summoned me for a serious discussion.

“Alex,” my father began, speaking like it was another business transaction, “your mother and I believe it’s time you settled down.”

“Settled down?” I replied, smirking. “You mean get married?”

“Exactly,” he nodded firmly, holding my gaze. “You’re nearing 30. If you want to run this company, you need to demonstrate commitment—a wife, a family. You can’t handle this business living like you do.”

My mother added, shaking her head, “Your father dedicated his life to this company. We can’t hand it over to someone who treats life as an endless party.”

Their ultimatum infuriated me. They wanted marriage? Fine. But I’d choose someone who’d shock their expectations.
