In a stunning development, two of the nation’s largest ABC affiliate groups—Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group—have announced they will no longer air Jimmy Kimmel Live! following controversy over remarks tied to the tragic death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
The move comes after Kimmel, during a monologue, speculated about the political leanings of the suspect in Kirk’s killing. Law enforcement later clarified that the individual, Tyler Robinson, had no links to conservative groups and instead expressed left-leaning views.
Critics from across the political spectrum said Kimmel’s comments were misleading and poorly timed, sparking outrage online and adding fuel to an already divisive national climate.
Why Affiliates Took a Stand
Nexstar Media Group defended its decision as part of a commitment to “maintaining respectful public discourse” during a tense moment for the country. Sinclair quickly echoed that reasoning, confirming its affiliates would replace Kimmel’s show with late-night news instead.
