When the Palisades Fire tore through California on January 7, 2025, it left devastation in its path with terrifying speed. Flames swallowed homes, thick smoke filled the air, and emergency evacuation orders forced residents to flee with little more than the clothes they were wearing.

For Casey Colvin, the chaos quickly turned personal.

While many worried about property and possessions, Casey’s fear centered on something far more important: his two dogs, Oreo and Tika Tika Tika.

Trapped by Circumstance, Driven by Love

Casey was at work when the fire broke out. As alerts flooded his phone and images of the spreading flames filled the news, panic set in. His home sat directly in the fire’s path — and his dogs were still there.

Road closures made driving impossible. Refusing to wait, Casey rented a bike and pedaled straight into the smoky uncertainty, fueled by adrenaline and fear. Five exhausting hours later, he reached his neighborhood, only to be stopped by emergency crews. The area was sealed off. The fire was still active. His home was inaccessible.

And his dogs were missing.
