
Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of over a billion Catholics worldwide, has passed away at the age of 88. The news was confirmed early this morning by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, who delivered the solemn announcement with deep reverence and emotion.
“At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father,” said Cardinal Farrell. “His entire life was dedicated to serving God and His Church.”
Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was the first Jesuit pope and the first from the Americas. Elected in 2013 following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI, he quickly became known for his humility, progressive views on social issues, and deep concern for the marginalized and the poor.
Cardinal Farrell highlighted these qualities in his tribute: “He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with faithfulness, courage, and universal love—especially for the poor and those who have been pushed to the margins of society.”
