Tragedy struck Hollywood as acclaimed director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Los Angeles home. Reiner, the beloved filmmaker behind classics like When Harry Met Sally…, The Princess Bride, Stand by Me, A Few Good Men, and Misery, was 78 years old. Michele, his partner of decades, was 68.
Emergency responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the home on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. local time. Upon entering, they found both Reiner and his wife deceased. Authorities have not made any arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.
A Life in Hollywood
Born Robert Maxwell Reiner on March 6, 1947, in New York City, Rob was the son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, creator of The Dick Van Dyke Show. Rob first gained fame as an actor on All in the Family, before moving behind the camera to direct films that became cultural touchstones. His work earned multiple Academy Award nominations and left an indelible mark on generations of moviegoers.
Rob met Michele Singer while directing When Harry Met Sally…. Their meeting famously inspired a change to the movie’s ending, a decision Reiner fondly recalled:
“I met my wife while making the movie, and we changed the ending. This is what we came up with. Billy [Crystal] came up with some of the dialogue, and that’s how we decided they do end up together.”
