The Words That Changed Everything
Henry’s heart sank the moment he saw the words scrawled across his car—“Hope She Was Worth It.” Just moments earlier, he had been filled with happiness, his thoughts wrapped around the future he and his wife, Emily, were building. But now, the accusation cut through him like a cold blade. He turned to Emily, his pregnant wife, searching for reassurance, but instead, he caught a flicker of doubt in her eyes.
“No, Emily, I swear—” he started, but the weight of the message had already planted a seed of uncertainty. The worst part? This wasn’t the work of a stranger or a jilted ex. It was someone much closer to them.
Emily trembled, her hands instinctively cradling her growing belly. “I don’t want to doubt you, Henry, but…” her voice wavered. He wrapped his arms around her, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. “It’s not your fault,” he whispered. But someone was responsible. And that person stood right in front of them.
Claire—Henry’s own sister—shifted uncomfortably under their gaze, her expression a mix of regret and something unreadable.
“Tell her,” Henry’s voice was firm, steady.
Claire sighed before finally admitting the truth. She had written the message, convinced she was “helping” him. “You always said you were nervous about becoming a dad,” she explained hesitantly. “I thought if Emily left, it would be easier for you.”
