Teen athlete Austin Metcalfs final post is heartbreaking

Hunter held his brother in his arms, desperately trying to stop the bleeding as help was called. Their father, Jeff Metcalf, described the desperate ride to the hospital: “I could see all the blood, I saw where the wound was. We prayed, but they weren’t able to save him.” Through tears, he named it for what it was: murder.

Karmelo Anthony, a student from another local high school, was arrested at the scene and is now charged with first-degree murder. He remains in custody at Collin County Jail on a $1 million bond. His father has spoken out in his defense, but the weight of the tragedy is heavy on the community.

Austin’s final post on X, just days before his death, has been widely shared: “Faith that god got me and my work will pay off.” Now, that message is being echoed by grieving friends, teammates, and strangers moved by his story.

Jeff Metcalf remembers his son as a natural leader with a contagious smile. A GoFundMe campaign in Austin’s memory highlights the love and admiration he inspired—from coaches to classmates to neighbors.

The stadium that once echoed with Austin’s cheers is now a symbol of sorrow, a place where dreams were cut short. Frisco continues to mourn a life full of promise, gone far too soon.

Rest in peace, Austin Metcalf. Your light and legacy will never be forgotten.
