Texas Flash Flooding Crisis Deepens as Search for the Missing Continues

The impact of the devastating flash floods in Texas continues to unfold, with officials confirming a significant rise in the number of people still unaccounted for. On Tuesday, Governor Greg Abbott announced that the number of missing individuals has increased to 161—up from 40 reported just a day earlier—while the confirmed death toll has reached 109, surpassing the tragic benchmark set by Hurricane Harvey.

Governor Abbott, who surveyed the damage from a helicopter, pledged continued efforts in the search and recovery process. “We will not stop until every missing person is accounted for,” he stated during a press briefing. The updated figures reflect reports from friends, relatives, and neighbors across affected communities, and officials noted that the numbers may continue to change as rescue operations proceed.

Camp Mystic and Kerr County Among the Hardest Hit

One of the most severely impacted areas is Kerr County, where 87 of the confirmed fatalities have occurred. Among them are 27 individuals associated with Camp Mystic, a well-known Christian summer camp for girls. Authorities have confirmed that five campers are still missing after the Guadalupe River rose more than 30 feet above its normal levels during the July 4th weekend.
