The Velvet Box And The Hidden Truth-

It began with something small—a credit card statement tucked between old receipts. A charge for $1,200 at a jewelry store I didn’t recognize. It wasn’t my birthday. Our anniversary was months away. I tucked the thought away, but it lingered like a shadow.

Soon, late nights became routine. Traffic. Long meetings. Explanations that were just convincing enough. But there was also the faint trace of perfume that wasn’t mine. The kind of detail you want to dismiss but can’t quite let go.

Then came the night he walked through the door holding a velvet box. I braced myself for a gift meant for me, rehearsing a surprised smile in my head. But instead, he handed it to our daughter.

“Good luck for your audition,” he said. “This is for confidence.”

Her eyes filled with tears of joy. My face did what faces are supposed to do, but inside, the questions kept piling up.
