Two-time world wingsuit skydiving champion Pierre Wolnik has tragically died after his parachute failed to deploy during a daring free-fall jump over Mont Blanc.
The 37-year-old French athlete was attempting a high-risk stunt on Saturday, February 7, leaping from a helicopter to free-fall above the iconic Mont Blanc massif before deploying his parachute. Eyewitnesses and reports from Le Figaro confirm that his chute failed to open, and first responders later recovered his body in the village of Les Bossons, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wolnik was a towering figure in the world of skydiving. He was not only a two-time Freefly World Champion, winning the prestigious title in 2022 and 2024, but also a dedicated videographer for the Fédération Française de Parachutisme, documenting his stunts and sharing them with fans worldwide. He was a key member of the French team for the 2026 FAI World Championships, inspiring countless aspiring skydivers with his skill and fearlessness.
