President Donald Trump has turned his focus to Memphis, Tennessee, unveiling a sweeping new initiative aimed at curbing violent crime in the city. Speaking from the Oval Office on Monday, Trump signed a presidential memorandum to officially establish the Memphis Safe Task Force—a move he called the “next step” in restoring safety to America’s cities.
“This is very important because of the crime in Memphis and many other cities,” Trump said. “We’ll handle it step by step, just like we did in D.C.”
A Federal, Multi-Agency Operation
The task force will not be a single-unit effort. Instead, it brings together multiple federal agencies, including the FBI, ATF, DEA, Homeland Security Investigations, and ICE. National Guard troops will also play a visible role, supplementing local police efforts while signaling the seriousness of the federal government’s commitment.
Trump said the task force will closely mirror his earlier crackdown in Washington, D.C., which he has repeatedly touted as “extraordinarily successful.”
