A possible ceasefire proposal, reportedly under consideration by U.S. officials, involved maintaining current territorial lines and recognizing Crimea as part of Russia—an idea Ukrainian leaders strongly rejected. President Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine views the return of Crimea as essential to any lasting peace. Trump weighed in by suggesting that earlier U.S. administrations had missed opportunities to prevent the conflict from escalating, while promoting his own record of diplomacy during his time in office.
On the domestic front, Trump addressed recent protests in Los Angeles that turned confrontational. He condemned the violence and disruptions reported at demonstrations and emphasized the importance of law and order. In response to the unrest, the federal government deployed National Guard personnel to assist local authorities.
