On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump voiced strong opposition to New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, suggesting he might consider using federal authority to intervene in the city depending on the outcome of the November election.
Trump posted on X, stating, “As President of the United States, I will not let this radical candidate harm New York. I have all the necessary tools and will work to restore New York City to its former greatness, just as I did for the country.”
He also warned that he would review Mamdani’s legal status and could take action if the candidate interfered with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in the city.
Mamdani’s unexpected win in the Democratic primary has sparked concern among Republicans, who view the 33-year-old democratic socialist as a sign of shifting political dynamics in the city.
From a relatively low-profile state assemblyman, Mamdani is now the likely Democratic nominee for mayor of the nation’s largest city, drawing attention from across the political spectrum.
