A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Caribbean region on Saturday evening, north of Honduras, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ). The quake, which occurred at 6:23 p.m. EST, sent tremors across multiple countries, prompting concerns about potential aftershocks and tsunami risks.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed the epicenter of the earthquake, which was located in the Caribbean Sea, north of Honduras. Following the quake, the U.S. Tsunami Warning System issued advisories for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, urging coastal residents to remain alert for any rising sea levels or potential tsunami waves.
