Adrian watched the door close behind Claire, a quiet sigh escaping his lips. She was headed off on another business trip—this time to Hong Kong. He’d played the part of the supportive husband, offering hugs and well wishes. But the moment she was out of sight, his demeanor changed. “Finally,” he murmured, already reaching for his phone.
At the airport, Claire was buzzing with excitement. She had big news—she was pregnant. She had planned to tell Adrian after landing, but life had other plans.
Back at home, Adrian was quick to call Vanessa. “She’s gone. You coming over?” he said with a grin. Vanessa replied with a playful laugh, promising a cozy evening. Not long after, she arrived, and the two enjoyed a carefree evening together—until the doorbell rang.
Adrian opened the door, expecting a delivery. Instead, Claire stood there with her suitcase in hand. “Flight was canceled,” she said cheerfully. “Thought I’d surprise you.”
Caught off guard, Adrian tried to keep calm. “Maybe you should rest. I’ll get dinner started,” he offered, trying to keep her away from the bedroom.
Claire raised an eyebrow. “Why are you acting so strange? And why is it so quiet?” She paused, thinking she heard something unusual, but Adrian brushed it off. “Must be the wind,” he said nervously.
