12-Year-Old Girl in Critical Condition After Tumbler Ridge School Shooting
A 12-year-old girl is fighting for her life following the deadly mass shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia, Canada, on Tuesday, February 10. The attack, the fourth deadliest in Canadian history, has so far claimed nine lives and left 27 others injured.
The young victim, Maya, was airlifted to Vancouver Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries, including gunshot wounds to the head and neck, according to PEOPLE. Her mother, Cia Edmonds, shared a heart-wrenching update on Facebook:

“I’m writing this post sitting in Vancouver Children’s Hospital while my daughter fights for her life. Today started as any other. [Now], my 12-year-old daughter is fighting for her life while they try to repair the damage from a gunshot wound to the head and one to the neck.”
Despite the severity of her injuries, Edmonds called her daughter “a lucky one” in the face of the tragedy and asked the public for prayers and support for Maya and the other victims’ families.
