A t-shirt sold at a local Walmart has gone viral due to an unintended offensive message in its design. The shirt, which was available in Canada for $5 and part of the George fashion label, featured a green design with a positive recycling message.
The front of the shirt displayed a large “RE,” while the back included the words ‘cycle,’ ‘use,’ ‘new,’ and ‘think.’ However, the design accidentally spelled out a rude word when viewed in a certain way.
The issue was brought to light by a Twitter user who posted a picture of the shirt, prompting widespread attention. The tweet has garnered over 1.3 million views and nearly 14,000 likes. Many users were quick to comment, with one saying, “I hope this is real.
Driving to Walmart now,” and another noting, “Oh. Oh dear.” Some users were initially confused about the offending word, prompting the original poster to suggest, “read down.”
Walmart responded to the incident by removing the shirt from sale. A spokesperson for the company clarified to Newsweek, “This was not intentional, and the t-shirt has been removed. For context, this item was only available in Canada.”
