If you’ve ever looked out at the ocean and noticed square waves forming a grid-like pattern, you’ve witnessed a cross sea in action. This occurs when different weather patterns produce wave systems that travel at opposite angles. Instead of the waves traveling in the same or similar direction, these opposing waves intersect to form squares.
