A university student made headlines in 2016 after she contacted Nestlé with an unusual request: a lifetime supply of Kit Kat bars. Her reason? She had purchased multiple Kit Kats that were missing their signature wafer layers—leaving her with solid chocolate instead.
Salma Ahmad, then a second-year law student at King’s College in London, said she was surprised and disappointed after opening an eight-pack of Kit Kats to find that the crisp wafer, a key part of the snack’s appeal, was missing from several bars. She said she contacted Nestlé for a refund and offered a bold suggestion: compensate her with a lifelong supply of Kit Kats so she could help ensure quality control going forward.
In her letter to Nestlé, Ahmad wrote:
“The specific duty you owe is consistency in your manufacturing process… I have also lost my faith in Nestlé. Clearly, if I wanted to purchase a confectionery item that is purely chocolate, I would have purchased a bar of Galaxy. I would therefore like to request a lifelong supply of Kit Kat so that I can act as a means of quality control — it appears you need me more than I need you.”
