Samantha was walking along the beach when something sparkling in the sand caught her eye. She bent down and found a stunning diamond ring, its brilliance enhanced by the sunlight. As she turned it over, she noticed an engraving: “E and J.”
Realizing the ring must be important, Samantha took it to Mr. Dalton, the local jeweler, hoping he could help. But when he saw the ring, his face drained of color. He gripped the counter for support.
“Where did you find this?” he asked, his voice shaky. Samantha explained, but Mr. Dalton, visibly distressed, insisted they call the police.
Officer Paula Hawkins arrived and listened carefully as Mr. Dalton explained that the ring belonged to his wife, Jennifer. It was a gift he had given her, and she had gone missing recently. He was desperate to find her.
Officer Hawkins immediately began her investigation. She interviewed witnesses, reviewed security footage, and combed the area. Days passed with little progress, but she kept pushing forward.
