Karen shot back, “Why don’t you stop taking up so much space? Maybe she should lose some weight!”
The flight attendants, clearly at their wits’ end, warned Karen to calm down or face consequences. Still, she pressed the call button over and over, shouting that her “human rights” were being violated.
When the plane finally landed, Karen couldn’t wait to dart down the aisle ahead of everyone. But the captain’s voice over the intercom stopped her.
“We’d like to recognize a very special passenger onboard today,” he said, and Karen beamed, expecting some recognition.
The captain made his way down the aisle and stopped at her row. “Ah, here we are! Seat 42C. Ladies and gentlemen, let’s give our special guest a round of applause!”
The cabin erupted in laughter, and Karen’s face turned crimson. She opened her mouth to protest, but no words came out. The captain nodded politely and returned to the cockpit.
James leaned back with a grin. “That,” he said to the woman beside him, “was worth the whole flight.”
As passengers disembarked, Karen stood there, mortified. James and the woman exchanged a smile.
“Here’s to a Karen-free flight next time,” James said.
“Cheers to that,” she laughed.
