Now, over a decade later, his wife Terri Irwin has revealed a surprising confession Steve once shared with her.
In a recent interview on the Australian television series “Anh’s Brush With Fame,” Terri opened up about Steve’s outlook on life. Reflecting on his premature death, Terri revealed, “He never anticipated a long life. He always had this sense that his time would be short.”
Tragically, Steve’s premonition proved accurate. While filming “Ocean’s Deadliest” in Queensland, Australia, he was fatally wounded by a stingray’s barb.
Recalling the moment she learned of her husband’s passing, Terri spoke of the overwhelming grief and sense of responsibility she felt. She had to summon the strength to inform their children, Bindi and Robert, a task made all the more difficult by her own anguish.
