I don’t particularly mind snakes; they’re usually gentle creatures that prefer solitude. However, it can be unsettling to encounter one while gardening or relaxing on your back deck. If you’re not fond of snakes, fret not! There are several humane ways to keep them away from your yard without resorting to harsh chemicals or cruelty. Here’s how:
1.Eliminate Their Food Sources:
Snakes are attracted to various food items, including mice, rats, discarded birdseed, and fruit. To discourage them, ensure your compost bin is tightly sealed and position bird feeders at the perimeter of your yard, far from your home.
2.Plant Lemongrass:
Planting lemongrass in your garden is a simple yet effective way to repel snakes, as they dislike the citrusy scent. Bonus: it also deters mosquitoes!
3.Citrus Solution:
Create a citrus solution by soaking lemon or orange rinds and pieces in a jar of water for 24 hours. Spray this solution on patio furniture, deck, and porch stairs to deter snakes.
4.Maintain Your Yard:
Keep your yard tidy by removing weeds and clearing away piles of sticks or debris, as these provide hiding spots for snakes.
