Woman Seriously Injured After Jumping Into Polar Bear Exhibit at Berlin Zoo
On Friday, a 32-year-old woman was attacked by polar bears at the Berlin Zoo after she jumped into their enclosure during feeding time.
The woman, identified only as Mandy K., managed to climb over a fence, a line of hedges, and a wall to reach the bears.
She leaped into the enclosure just as the polar bears were being fed and sustained significant injuries to her arms, legs, and back before she was rescued.
Despite the best efforts of six zookeepers to divert the four polar bears, one of the bears repeatedly bit Mandy as they worked to get her to safety.
Thankfully, the zookeepers were able to scare off the bear and rescue the woman.
Mandy is now recovering in the hospital following surgery for her wounds.
It was later revealed that Mandy is a teacher who had been struggling with job search frustrations, which led to her distressing actions.
