Despite facing harsh criticism from fans, George Clooney remains enchanted by his wife, Amal Clooney, a woman he describes as magical and who forever altered his status as a bachelor.
“Everything about my wife is magical, which everyone recognizes as they learn about her and what she stands for,” George Clooney told Entertainment Tonight in 2022. “There’s just not a downside to her.”
George Clooney, an accomplished actor and filmmaker, is renowned for his varied roles in television and film. Some may recall him as a young handyman on the sitcom “The Facts of Life,” which aired from 1979 to 1988, and more recently in TV’s “ER,” and in films like “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” (2000), “Ocean’s Eleven” (2001), and “Ticket to Paradise” (2022).
His life took a significant turn when he met Amal Alamuddin, a stunning Lebanese-British human rights lawyer, in 2013. Their whirlwind romance led to a proposal within six months of their first date.
Reflecting on his proposal, Clooney, now 61, recounted, “I was on my knee for about 28 minutes, waiting for an answer before I joked about my hip giving out!”
The couple wed in September 2014 at the luxurious Aman Canal Grande hotel in Venice, Italy, in a ceremony attended by celebrities like Bono, Matt Damon, and Bill Murray.
Amal, thrust into the spotlight since dating George, faced relentless scrutiny and cruel comments online about her appearance and style. Despite her extensive achievements, including representing clients like WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, and working for the United Nations in 2019, she often faced reduction to mere physical assessments.
In 2015, Amal’s portrayal by the media came under fire when the Associated Press initially referred to her merely as “actor’s wife” while covering her legal representation of journalist Mohamed Fahmy. The backlash led AP to correct its tweet to emphasize her role as a human rights lawyer.
Amal addressed the undue focus on her personal life over her professional accomplishments, “I try to shift the spotlight to what’s important. That’s all I can do.”
Despite the negativity, George continues to admire Amal openly, praising her brilliance and style effortlessly maintained amidst her busy legal career. “She’s an amazing woman,” he said.
The couple enjoys their time at their Lake Como villa, where they first met, with their twins Alexander and Ella, born in 2017.
“I feel lucky every day,” Clooney expressed in a 2017 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “Lucky to have found the perfect partner. Sometimes it happens later in life, but you find the person you were meant to be with.”
