Did Donald Trump have Kate Middleton and Queen Camilla mixed up during state banquet?

“Look how regal she looks… [Kate is] looking at Donald Trump like a childish, impish comment has been made. There is something going on here where either Kate has an effect on him, or there’s a narrative in his head that results in him deferring.”

Durham described this dynamic as a rare moment where Trump appeared to take a back seat, with Kate seemingly asserting subtle influence over the conversation.

Praise for the Princess of Wales

From the moment Trump and Melania stepped off Marine One, they were greeted by Prince William and Princess Catherine. Reports say Trump complimented Kate warmly, telling her, “You’re so beautiful,” before continuing to praise her during his banquet speech:

“To see Her Royal Highness, Princess Catherine, so radiant and so healthy, and so beautiful, it’s really a great honor. Thank you.”

However, some royal watchers noticed that when Trump referred to “the Queen” as “very, very special,” his gaze seemed to be directed at Kate — prompting speculation online that he may have confused Princess Catherine with Queen Camilla.

Admiration for King Charles

While Trump may have mixed up titles, he did express admiration for King Charles as well. Lip reader Jeremy Freeman shared that, off-mic, Trump told the monarch:

“It’s so incredible, it’s what you do so well.”

Clearly, Trump’s respect for the royal family was evident, even if royal titles appeared to cause a moment of confusion.
